The doctors of Women’s Health Associates follow a belief that the combination of science and human issues is the core of women’s health care and by providing well-women exams, routine obstetrics, high-risk pregnancy management and consultation, pre-conception counseling and planning, and infertility diagnosis and treatment, they offer the very best a woman can expect. A wide variety of other services are offered as a way of insuring the best coverage possible for a woman such as in office ultrasound (3-D), bone densitometry, advanced gynecologic surgery and healthy lifestyle living.

Women must be in tune with their bodies and a great way of doing this is by regular visits to the OB-GYN so they can take advantage of the various testing procedures offered. With the best interests of women in mind, the professionals at Women’s Health Associates are advising healthy lifestyles and providing education on a number of critical issues. Women’s Health Associates is the obstetrics and gynecologic practice of Dr. Timothy M. Hart, Dr. John R. Carter, Dr. K. Leslie Dean and nurse practitioner Nancy Wells. Their mission is to provide patient-centered women’s health care by applying their clinical expertise and commitment to excellence in meeting the personal needs of each patient.

Early detection is just such a factor today! Women’s Health Associates promotes regular visits so patients will remain aware of their personal health status and keep abreast of current issues regarding prevention and
treatment options available to today’s woman.

Women should do monthly self-breast examination (SBE). One can’t overemphasize the importance of mammography screening for early detection. The baseline age to get checked is 35 to 40. If you have a first-degree relative such as a mom or sibling with breast cancer, you should obtain a mammogram no later than your 35th birthday. Everyone should get checked annually after the age 40.

In addition to a self-breast examination, another not so publicized preventative self examination is that of a monthly self-vulva inspection for the purpose of noting lesions, pigmentation changes or irritation.

Dr. John R. Carter has been a practicing ob-gyn since 1988. Dr. Carter said, “I have gained much personal pleasure and pride in building a practice in the Shreveport-Bossier area.” Carter is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the American Medical Association, Louisiana Medical Society and the Ark-La-Tex Ob-Gyn Society. He is married to Jan Bailey Carter and has two children, Emily and David. Carter said he enjoys spending most of his spare time with family activities - primarily attending sporting events for his two active, athletic teenagers. And another favorite hobby of Dr. Carter's is hunting - whether it's in South Bossier or taking a hunting excursion.
Dr. K. Leslie Dean has been a practicing ob-gyn since 1997. The road to becoming a physician for Dr. Dean was not a straight path. After marrying, having three children and spending much of her time as a community volunteer, Dean decided to return the focus to her career and entered medical school. She said, “Although I had not anticipated it, the specialty I most enjoyed and was immediately drawn to in medical school was obstetrics and gynecology.” She is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Medical Association and is a junior fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dean said when time permits, she enjoys gardening, reading and traveling.
Dr. Timothy M. Hart has been a practicing ob-gyn in the Shreveport-Bossier area for 25 years. Dr. Hart chose ob-gyn medicine because the field is generally a happy one. And an extraordinary part of his job is when “I get to share in the very special event when a couple has a child.” Hart is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a past president of the Ark-La-Tex Ob-Gyn Society and a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, Southern Medical Association, American Medical Association, Louisiana Medical Society, Southeastern Ob-Gyn Society and Shreveport Medical Society. He is married and has five grown children. Hart enjoys traveling with his wife Betsy, playing golf, hunting, gardening and reading during his spare time.
