The practice was founded in 1977 in Bossier City.  To better meet the needs of the community, the physicians admit to Christus Schumpert in Shreveport and Willis-Knighton in Bossier City.  Patients have a choice to be seen at either of the clinic’s locations adjacent to the hospital, 2400 Hospital Drive, Suite 240 in Bossier City and 1534 Elizabeth Avenue, Suite 204 in Shreveport.

Women’s Health Associates mission is to provide patient-centered women’s health care by applying clinical expertise and a personal commitment to excellence in meeting the needs of each patient.  Each member of the clinical staff is committed to helping patients achieve and maintain optimal health. The physicians consider it a privilege to share in the miracle of birth.

Women’s Health Associates specializes in obstetrics and gynecology and the examination, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of women’s health problems.  The scope of services include routine and high-risk obstetrics, pre-conceptual counseling, infertility, well-woman care, management of menopause, advanced and minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, in-office 3D ultrasound and bone densitometry.  The practice is highly regarded in the community for its leadership in applying the latest treatment options available in women’s health.
Women’s Health Associates encourages and welcomes patient participation in the decisions pertinent to their health.  A wide range of educational materials are available to help patients understand their health problems and the best route to achieving optimal health status.

Along side the physicians, Nancy Wells specializes in assisting patients to manage menopause and pelvic pain.  Nancy enjoys working with patients, answering their questions and assisting them in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Osteoporosis is one of the significant health issues facing the women of today.  Women’s Health Associates was the first OB/Gyn practice in the community to provide in-office full-body bone densitometry.  This service is now considered an essential component of well-woman care.  Eligible patients not only receive the test with state of the art equipment, but also are offered extensive counseling and education on their results and options to improve their bone health.

The physicians and Nancy Wells welcome the opportunity to meet with members of the community in presenting issues pertaining to women’s health and the options available to today’s women.  They enjoy the interaction resulting from their presentation and discussions with the audience.   Members of the community are encouraged to call the practice to request speaking engagements on women’s health issues.

The practice values the trust and confidence of their patients.  The staff – both clinical and administrative – are very appreciative when patients refer their family and friends.  New patients are always welcome.  For an appointment, please call 318-742-5800.

Dr. John R. Carter has been a practicing ob-gyn since 1988. Dr. Carter said, “I have gained much personal pleasure and pride in building a practice in the Shreveport-Bossier area.” Carter is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the American Medical Association, Louisiana Medical Society and the Ark-La-Tex Ob-Gyn Society. He is married to Jan Bailey Carter and has two children, Emily and David. Carter said he enjoys spending most of his spare time with family activities - primarily attending sporting events for his two active, athletic teenagers. And another favorite hobby of Dr. Carter's is hunting - whether it's in South Bossier or taking a hunting excursion.
Dr. K. Leslie Dean has been a practicing ob-gyn since 1997. The road to becoming a physician for Dr. Dean was not a straight path. After marrying, having three children and spending much of her time as a community volunteer, Dean decided to turn the focus to her career and entered medical school. She said, “Although I had not anticipated it, the specialty I most enjoyed and was immediately drawn to in medical school was obstetrics and gynecology.” Dean is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a member of the American Medical Association, Louisiana State Medical Society, and Shreveport Medical Society. Dean said when time permits, she enjoys gardening, reading and traveling.
Dr. Timothy M. Hart has been a practicing ob-gyn in the Shreveport-Bossier area for 25 years. Dr. Hart chose ob-gyn medicine because the field is generally a happy one. And an extraordinary part of his job is when “I get to share in the very special event when a couple has a child.” Hart is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a past president of the Ark-La-Tex Ob-Gyn Society and a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, Southern Medical Association, American Medical Association, Louisiana Medical Society, Southeastern Ob-Gyn Society and Shreveport Medical Society. He is married and has five grown children. Hart enjoys traveling with his wife Betsy, playing golf, hunting, gardening and reading during his spare time.
